Build

In ianaiERP, builds are used to manage the assembly of finished goods from raw materials or components. This feature is essential for businesses involved in manufacturing or assembly processes.

Overview

  • Builds convert component items into finished goods (assemblies).

  • Each build transaction decreases the inventory of components and increases the inventory of the finished good.

  • The system supports multi-level bills of materials (BOMs) for complex assemblies.

Where to Access

  • Users can access builds in Manufacturing

Key Attributes

Header

  • Build Number: Auto/manual identifier for the build.

  • Date: Build date (defaults to today).

  • Location: Where the build occurs (defaults to user’s location).

  • Internal Notes: Free text for special instructions.

Built Items section

  • Item: The assembly to produce.

  • Quantity: Units to build.

  • Bin Location: Storage bin for finished goods (if bin tracking).

  • Lot/Serial: Lot or serial numbers for the finished item (if tracked).

Line Items section (components)

  • Item: Each component to be consumed.

  • Quantity: Amount used for this build.

  • Bin Location: Source bin for the component (if applicable).

  • Lot/Serial: Lot/serial to consume (if tracked).

  • Class / Project Code / Department: Optional tags for reporting.

Statuses

  • Pending: Created; not started.

  • In Production: In progress.

  • Complete: Finished; stock moves posted.

  • Cancelled: Will not be completed.

Behavior

  • Stock movements are created automatically when a build is Complete.

  • Lot/Serial tracking and Bin locations are supported for both components and finished goods.

Key Functions

Create a build

  • Manufacturing → Build → Add New → fill Header → add Built Item (Item, Quantity, Bin, Lot/Serial) → add Line Items (components, quantities, bins, lot/serial) → Save.

Track progress

  • Update Status (Pending → Production → Complete/Cancelled) as work proceeds.

Consume specific stock

  • Select the exact lot/serial and bin for each component when required.

Post completion

  • Mark Complete to decrease component stock and increase finished-good stock automatically.

Operate with best practices

  • Ensure all components are correctly identified and quantities are accurate.

  • Review/update builds and underlying BOMs when processes or costs change.

  • Use base units of measure consistently across components.

  • Include all relevant costs (e.g., labor/overhead captured elsewhere) for accurate product costing.

  • Use multi-level BOMs for products with sub-assemblies.
