Build

In ianaiERP, builds are used to manage the assembly of finished goods from raw materials or components. This feature is essential for businesses involved in manufacturing or assembly processes.

Overview

  • Production: Builds convert raw component items into finished goods (assemblies).

  • Inventory Impact: Each build transaction automatically decreases component inventory and increases finished good inventory.

  • Complexity Support: The system fully supports multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) for complex, multi-stage assemblies.

Where to Access

Go to the Manufacturing module to manage your builds.

Key Attributes

Header

  • Build Number: A unique auto-generated or manual identifier for the build.

  • Date: The date of the build (defaults to the current date).

  • Location: The specific facility where the build occurs (defaults to the user’s primary location).

  • Internal Notes: A free-text field for special instructions or production notes.

Built Items Section

  • Item: The specific finished assembly being produced.

  • Quantity: The total number of units to build.

  • Bin Location: The designated storage bin for the finished goods (if bin tracking is enabled).

  • Lot/Serial: Assigned lot or serial numbers for the finished item (if tracking is required).

Line Items section (components)

  • Item: The individual components consumed during the build.

  • Quantity: The exact amount used for this specific build.

  • Bin Location: The source bin where the component is pulled from.

  • Lot/Serial: The specific lot or serial number to consume (if tracking is required).

  • Class / Project Code / Department: Optional reporting tags to track specific jobs or divisions.

Statuses

  • Pending: The build is created but production has not yet started.

  • In Production: The build is currently in progress on the floor.

  • Complete: Production is finished and inventory stock movements have been posted.

  • Cancelled: The build has been aborted and will not be completed.

Behavior

  • Automatic Adjustments: Stock movements post automatically the moment a build is marked Complete.

  • Full Tracking: Lot/serial numbers and bin locations are fully supported for both incoming components and outgoing finished goods.

Key Functions

Create a build

  • Manufacturing → Build → Add New → fill Header → add Built Item (Item, Quantity, Bin, Lot/Serial) → add Line Items (components, quantities, bins, lot/serial) → Save.

Track progress

  • Keep production records accurate by updating the build Status (Pending → In Production → Complete or Cancelled) as physical work proceeds.

Consume specific stock

  • For strict quality control, select the precise lot/serial number and warehouse bin for each component during assembly.

Post completion

  • Change the status to Complete to instantly update your inventory—decreasing component counts and increasing finished-good stock in one click.

Operate with best practices

  • Accuracy First: Double-check that all components are correctly identified and quantities match actual usage before finalizing.

  • Regular Reviews: Audit your builds and underlying BOMs whenever manufacturing processes or component costs change.

  • Use base units of measure consistently across components.

  • Standardize Units: Use base units of measure consistently across all components to avoid conversion errors.

  • True Costing: Ensure all relevant external costs (like labor or overhead captured elsewhere) are factored in for accurate product costing.

  • Utilize Sub-Assemblies: Use multi-level BOMs to cleanly organize products that require pre-built sub-components.
