Shop Floor

The Shop Floor in ianaiERP is a live map of one location's production floor. Every work center sits where it really is in the plant, coloured by what it is doing right now, with its running job, the work piling up in front of it and the queue behind it. A supervisor can read the whole floor at a glance, and move or re-order queued work without leaving the map.

Overview

  • Live plant view: see which stations are running, idle, in setup or down, and why a station is red.

  • Work in process at a glance: find where work is waiting, and which jobs are late or at risk of missing their due date.

  • Move work where it fits: drag a queued operation to another work center the routing allows, and see when it would really start before you commit.

  • Re-order a queue: change the order in which a work center runs its work with a simple drag.

  • Replay the plan: step through the schedule for the shift, today, the next 24 hours or the week.

  • Wall display: put the floor on a TV for the whole plant to see.

Where to Access

Navigation: Manufacturing → Shop Floor.

The menu entry appears for users with Production Scheduling access who can see work orders or builds. You also need access to the location the floor belongs to.

Choose a floor: a floor is a location. Pick one in Choose a floor at the top left. If the location selector in the page header is set to a particular location, the Shop Floor follows it — choose All locations in the header to pick a floor here instead. The page reopens on the floor you last used.

A floor that has not been drawn yet offers ready-made starting layouts. See Shop Floor Layout.

The Top Bar

ControlWhat it does
Choose a floorThe location whose floor you are looking at
Live / PlanLive is the floor as it is now; Plan is the floor as the schedule says it should be at the moment on the timeline
Find a station or work orderHighlights work centers whose name or code matches, or that are running or queuing a matching work order. Pick a match to open that work center
Color the floor byStatus, Load, WIP, Late and at risk or None
Updated Ns agoHow fresh the live data is. It turns red after two minutes without an update — check your connection
RefreshReloads the floor and its live data
Edit layoutSwitches the drawing tools on, for users who may edit the layout

Live data refreshes on its own every 30 seconds, and straight away when schedules, machines, labor bookings or the layout change. It pauses while you are dragging or editing, and catches up when you finish.

The Summary Strip

A row of figures sits under the top bar. Running, Idle, Down and Late double as filters: select one to highlight just those work centers, select it again to clear.

  • Running – Work centers that are running.

  • Idle – Work centers that are idle or ready.

  • Down – Work centers that are down or in maintenance.

  • WIP – Operations waiting, running and waiting to move; hover for the split.

  • WIP value – The value of work in process, for users with access to cost. Not shown in Plan mode.

  • Late – Operations running past their scheduled end. Hover to see how many work orders are at risk of missing their due date.

  • Utilization – Scheduled hours against available hours across the floor, today.

  • Not on the map – Shown when some operations cannot be drawn: steps with no work center, and steps at a subcontractor.

Work Center Status and Colours

A work center's status comes from the first thing that applies:

  1. A status override set on the work center.

  2. Otherwise, the worst status among its machines: Down, then Maintenance, Setup, Idle, Running.

  3. With no machine reporting: open setup labor makes it Setup; any open labor or an operation in progress makes it Running; work scheduled for right now makes it Ready; otherwise it is Idle.

Color the floor by changes what the colours mean:

OptionColours
StatusRunning green, Setup yellow, Down red, Maintenance orange, Idle grey
LoadBy today's load: red over 100%, orange over 85%, then teal and blue, grey when nothing is loaded
WIPBy jobs waiting to start plus jobs waiting to move: red at 10 or more, orange at 5 or more
Late and at riskRed with a late operation, orange with a work order at risk

Each station also carries a time strip of its operations across the timeline window, with late work outlined.

The Work Center Card

Select a work center to open its card on the right; select empty floor to close it.

  • Header – A status badge, the number of machines and how many are down, and how many operators are clocked on.

  • Running now – The running job's work order, operation, item, progress, N of M done, scrap and operators. A Late badge means it is running past its scheduled end. Select the work order to open it. Reads Nothing running when idle.

  • Work in process – Three tiles: Waiting (operations whose previous step is finished, waiting to start here), In process (the quantity being worked on now) and To move (work finished here, waiting to move on to the next work center). Value held here appears for users with access to cost.

  • Load today – Scheduled hours against available hours for the location's working day. Over 100%, or work scheduled outside the working calendar, reads red as over capacity.

  • Queue – The upcoming operations, described below.

  • Station opens this work center's operator screen (see Shop Floor Station), Schedule opens it in Production Scheduling, and Trace shows the running work order's route across the floor.

How work in process is counted

  • Waiting counts a step once the step before it is fully complete. Its quantity is what that previous step completed, or the work order quantity for a first step.

  • In process is each running operation's in-progress quantity, or the work order quantity when none is recorded.

  • To move is a completed step whose next step has not started and runs at a different work center.

  • A step done by a subcontractor does not release the next step into Waiting — the next step waits until the work comes back.

  • A work order is at risk when it is past its due date, or scheduled to finish after the end of its due day in the location's time zone.

The Queue

The queue lists a work center's upcoming operations in run order — the pending operations of released work orders (Issued, In Progress or On Hold). The first 10 are shown; when there are more, the heading says showing N of M. Each card shows its position, work order, operation and scheduled start and end, with:

  • a lock icon when the job is Locked to this time;

  • a Late start badge when it should already have started.

The … menu on a card offers Lock to this time / Unlock, Move to another work center… and Open work order. Locking and moving need Production Scheduling edit access; without it the queue is read-only.

You can also open a queue straight from the map: select the count badge on a station to open its queue in a pop-up with the same actions.

Moving an Operation to Another Work Center

  1. Choose Move to another work center… on a queued job, or press on a job in a station's time strip. The job follows the pointer.

  2. Work centers that can take it light up green; ones that cannot turn red. Near the edge of the map, the floor scrolls towards the pointer.

  3. Drop it on a green work center, or on one of its machines to ask for that machine.

  4. Choose how to place it:

    • Earliest fit (default) – The first time the target can really take it, never before now and never before the previous step of the same work order ends. Would start shows the time the move will really get.

    • Keep time – Keeps the current start.

    • Machine – Shown when the target has more than one machine. Any available machine lets the system pick; a machine that is down or in maintenance cannot be chosen.

  5. Select Move. A notice confirms Moved to the work center, with Undo to put it back.

Don't ask again while I'm here skips the confirmation for the rest of your visit and uses Earliest fit.

Earliest fit picks the earliest finish across the target's machines, and on a tie the least-loaded machine. The operation keeps its duration, and later steps of the same work order can shift to follow it. If the move would push the target over 100% of today's capacity, you are warned before you confirm.

Why a move is refused

Nothing changes, and the reason is shown, when:

  • This operation is locked – Unlock it first.

  • The operation has already started – started, completed and subcontracted operations cannot change work center.

  • The routing does not allow this work center – The routing step does not list it as an allowed work center. The current work center is always allowed.

  • Every machine here is down – Every machine at the target is down or in maintenance, or the work center has a Down or Maintenance override.

  • The operation is split into several scheduled pieces.

  • No slot fits in roughly the next 60 days, or the start or machine you asked for has no capacity.

  • The operation belongs to a what-if schedule scenario — publish the scenario first.

Re-ordering a Work Center's Queue

Drag a card by its grip to a new place in the queue, on the work center card or in the queue pop-up. Locked jobs keep their place and cannot be picked up. In the pop-up you can also use the keyboard: space picks a job up, the arrow keys move it, space drops it and escape cancels.

  • Only the jobs in the list are re-timed, in the new order. None starts earlier than now or before the previous step of its work order ends.

  • Locked and unlisted work stays where it is and still takes up capacity.

  • The routing's step order is not changed.

  • The whole re-order applies or none of it does. If someone else re-orders the same queue at the same moment, you are asked to reload and try again.

Plan Mode and the Timeline

The timeline along the bottom replays the schedule. Drag the slider or select play, and the floor switches to Plan: running work, queues and status are taken from the schedule at that moment.

  • Time range – This shift, Today, 24 hours or This week, with now marked on the slider.

  • Playback speed – 1×, 4× or 16×.

  • Go live returns to the live floor.

Plan mode shows the plan, not a measurement: it has no scrap, operators or WIP value. Moving and re-ordering work is available on the live floor only.

Tracing a Work Order's Route

Trace on a work center card draws the running work order's path across the floor and lists it under Route, step by step with each step's status. Steps that cannot be drawn — at a subcontractor, or at a work center not on this floor — are listed under Not on this map.

Troubleshooting

  • The job won't drag to that station: it turns red for a reason — the job is locked or started, the routing does not allow that work center, or every machine there is down. Unlock the job, add the work center as an allowed alternative on the routing, or bring a machine back up.

  • There is no Move or grip on the queue: you are in Plan mode, you lack Production Scheduling edit access, or the job is locked.

  • My re-order didn't stick: someone re-ordered the same queue at the same time, or one of the jobs started or was locked in the meantime. Reload and try again.

  • Updated … ago is red: the page has not received fresh data for over two minutes. Check the connection, then select refresh.
